Design - A Major Driver
Maximum value generation occurs when material and information flow through the entire value stream safely, consistently, defect free, at entitlement rate, and at the lowest cost. Unfortunately, bottlenecks and impediments to flow are common and are inherent in machine and line design. These are typically compounded by paradigms of true performance potential which limits mangement’s target throughput.
Discrete and continuous flow value streams can benefit from upfront analysis and design to optimize performance, or in the case of existing lines, determine the best design change for the greatest performance gain.
Application of value engineering to value streams has typically achieved 80% reduction in lead time, 45% increase in productivity and 30% inventory reduction.
